I’ve been eyeing platinum more and more lately, thinking it might be a good way to diversify my holdings a bit further than just gold. I've got a decent chunk in my Gold IRA already, probably sitting around $75k-$80k right now after all the recent bumps. For those of you who've already gone down this road, what are your experiences with custodians that handle platinum for an IRA?

Honestly, my current custodian is… fine. Nothing spectacular, nothing terrible. They do the job for my gold, but I'm wondering if there are better options out there, especially if I'm adding a new metal. I’m an agriculture guy here in Fresno, and I believe strongly in holding onto real assets – land, equipment, precious metals. Call me old-fashioned, but paper just feels too flimsy sometimes. So, finding a custodian that’s rock solid and understands the value of these hard assets is pretty important to me.

I’m looking to put maybe another $20k-$30k into platinum over the next year or so, depending on market movements. Are there any particular custodians that stand out for their platinum services? Things like competitive fees, good storage options (preferably fully segregated, but I'm open), and just overall ease of doing business are key. I’ve heard some horror stories about surprise fees or really slow transaction times, and I want to avoid that if possible.

So, hit me with your recommendations! Any custodians you’ve had a really good experience with, or even ones to avoid? Especially interested if you’re also doing platinum in an IRA. Trying to get this sorted out before the end of the year if I can.

Idk man, I'd be a little wary of putting too much platinum in there. Historically, it doesn't always perform as well as gold during economic downturns, and the industrial demand can make it pretty volatile. Gold just feels like a more solid safe haven play for an IRA.

You're already diversified with gold, maybe look at other asset classes if you're trying to really spread things out beyond precious metals?

Totally get where you're coming from! I actually just went through something similar with silver. Had a pretty big chunk in gold already and felt like I needed to branch out a bit.

My custodian was great about it – super helpful explaining the ins and outs of adding silver. I'd definitely recommend checking with your current one first to see their platinum options before jumping ship. Good luck!

Interesting! I've mostly just considered gold and silver for my precious metals IRA. Do platinum IRAs have the same kind of storage requirements as gold and silver, meaning it has to be held by an approved depository?

Hey, I hear you on the platinum! It's definitely an interesting option for diversification. Just make sure you're clear on the specific IRS rules for what forms of platinum are eligible for an IRA. Some bars and coins are good, others aren't.

You might want to check out the IRS website directly for the most up-to-date info on eligible precious metals. It's always good to cross-reference with your custodian, but the IRS is the ultimate authority here.

Totally agree with looking at platinum! I've been doing the same thing. I've heard some good things about Scottsdale Bullion & Coin for platinum and palladium IRAs. They helped me get set up with palladium a few months back, and the process was pretty smooth. It's nice to have that extra diversification, especially with everything going on.
