Anyone else banking on gold to weather this inflation storm?
- •Seriously, this run-up in inflation has me looking hard at every corner of my portfolio.
- •As a construction guy, I see the price of everything going up every damn day – lumber, concrete, even the nuts and bolts.

Seriously, this run-up in inflation has me looking hard at every corner of my portfolio. As a construction guy, I see the price of everything going up every damn day – lumber, concrete, even the nuts and bolts. It's insane. For the past few years, my Gold IRA has been my go-to for inflation protection, and frankly, it's been a godsend.
I started putting a chunk of my retirement into a Gold IRA back when everyone was talking about "transitory" inflation. Glad I didn't buy that line. I've got a little over $300k in my IRA, and a good chunk of that is allocated to physical gold. I'm talking actual coins and bars held at a depository, not just some paper ETF. There’s just something about having that tangible asset, you know? It's like owning land or equipment – something real that isn't going to vanish overnight because of some spreadsheet error.
With the Fed still humming and hawing, and Chicago property taxes feeling like a second mortgage, I just don't trust relying solely on traditional investments right now. Gold has always felt like the ultimate hedge against monetary debasement. It's held its value for millennia, through empires rising and falling. What’s everyone else doing to protect their wealth from this current inflationary environment? Are you diversified heavily into other tangible assets, or are you sticking with more traditional routes?
My biggest concern now is figuring out how much more to allocate. I’m thinking about rolling over a portion of an old 401k into my Gold IRA. Has anyone had experience with that process? Any specific things to watch out for with transfer fees or custodians? Would love to hear some thoughts from others navigating this crazy economic climate!
