Added silver to my Gold IRA - here's why, what do you guys think?

Okay, so I've been sitting on a pretty substantial gold IRA for years now, mostly physical, some paper. After retiring from Shell a few years back, I’ve been keeping a close eye on the markets from my Houston recliner, and things just feel… different. My gold has certainly done its job, hovering around the 2.5 million mark in value, but lately, I’ve started thinking about something a little more accessible. That's why I finally decided to pull the trigger and add a good chunk of silver to my IRA.
My reasoning was pretty straightforward. For one, the gold-to-silver ratio is something I’ve always tracked, and right now, it feels like silver is undervalued compared to its shinier counterpart. Historically, when that ratio narrows, silver tends to do quite well. Plus, the increasing industrial demand for silver, especially with all the green energy tech popping up, makes me optimistic about its long-term prospects beyond just being a monetary metal. I’m thinking about the real-world applications that gold just doesn't have at the same scale.
I ended up allocating about 10% of my overall precious metals holdings to silver, which came out to a little over $250,000 worth. Mostly in American Silver Eagles – seems like the safest bet for liquidity and recognition if things ever go south. It honestly feels good to diversify a bit within the precious metals space, even if it’s just between gold and silver. It’s not a huge slice of my total portfolio, but it feels like a prudent move for someone like me who’s trying to preserve wealth rather than chase aggressive growth at this stage.
Curious to hear from other folks here. Have any of you guys made a similar move recently? What are your thoughts on silver's role in a long-term retirement portfolio? Are you seeing the same industrial demand signals I am, or am I just getting too cozy with my Wall Street Journal? Let me know what you think!
