Hard to believe it's been five years since I first opened my Gold IRA. Time flies when you're watching the markets, I guess! My husband and I are farmers here outside of Kansas City, and with the way things are going, preserving our wealth and having something tangible felt like the smartest move we could make for our retirement. We started with about $60,000 transferred over from a traditional IRA, mostly through a 401k rollover from when I used to work at Hallmark before we expanded the farm.
Honestly, the first year or two I was a little nervous. You hear all these pros and cons, and sometimes it just feels like everyone has an opinion. But seeing the price of gold steadily climb, especially with all the economic uncertainty since COVID, has been really reassuring. We added another $20,000 this past year when we had a particularly good harvest season and wanted to diversify even more. It’s comforting to know that a good chunk of our retirement isn't just paper assets. There's real physical gold backing it up, sitting in a vault somewhere. It just makes more sense to me.
I'm not going to lie and say it's been a get-rich-quick scheme – that's not what this is about, at least not for us. It’s about stability and weathering potential storms. Our portfolio is sitting somewhere around $95,000 now, which is a decent return, especially considering how wild everything else has been. I'm feeling really positive about it. My sister-in-law was asking me about it last week, and I told her to look into it. There are a lot of resources out there now. I even found a pretty neat Gold IRA Quiz recently that helps you understand if it's a good fit for you. Wish I’d had something like that when I was first starting out!
Anyone else here been in their Gold IRA for a while? What's your experience been like lately? Are you considering adding more, or are you holding steady? I'm always curious to hear how others are feeling about their tangible assets.
