Wife finally saw the light on Gold IRAs (and why you should too)

Took me darn near a decade, but my wife is finally on board with the Gold IRA strategy. For years, she was all about the traditional paper assets – stocks, bonds, the whole nine yards. Said I was just being a doomsday prepper with my gold bug. Even with the political shenanigans and economic wobbles we've seen globally, she was steadfast. Her argument was always, "It doesn't pay dividends, what's a shiny rock gonna do for us?"
Well, turns out what the "shiny rock" does is hold its value when everything else is going Topsy-turvy. Seeing the inflation numbers tick up this past year, and then the instability coming out of Europe and the South China Sea – that finally got her attention. We're talking about a significant chunk of our retirement savings here, probably around 20% of our half-million-dollar portfolio, that I've had in physical gold for a while now. She watched her 401k dip while my separate Gold IRA account basically held its own, and even saw a decent bump in value. That’s probably the most compelling dividend she’s ever seen.
What really sealed the deal for her was talking to some of her friends who are also retired service members here in Honolulu. A couple of their spouses had been eyeing gold for a while and recently pulled the trigger on some Gold Rounds for their own IRAs. Hearing it from them, and how they felt more secure about their future given the global climate, especially with our proximity to certain geopolitical hotspots, really resonated. It wasn't just my "doom and gloom" anymore; it was a shared, practical concern.
So, we just finished setting up her own Gold IRA, starting with a good chunk of funds she’d been holding in a lower-performing mutual fund. We went with a mix of Gold Eagles and some South African Krugerrands, which I personally have a soft spot for. The peace of mind for both of us is huge. Anyone else have a spouse they had to slowly convert to the gold side? What finally got them over the hump?
