Wife finally getting on board with Gold & Silver IRA after years watching my portfolio

Took a solid 6 years, but my wife is finally seeing it. When I initially rolled over a significant chunk of my old 401(k) into a Silver IRA back in 2017 – about $750k at the time – she was skeptical, to say the least. Honestly, she probably thought I was having some kind of early-midlife crisis, buying up physical silver and then gold, moving it into a secure vault in Delaware. We're in Scottsdale, so the idea of tangible assets not under our roof was a big leap for her. Her background is much more traditional finance, all stocks and bonds, so the concept of hedging against inflation and market volatility with precious metals felt almost…primitive to her.
The last few years, especially since 2020, have really shifted her perspective. She watched my traditional investments dip and surge, but the precious metals side of my portfolio (which has grown to well over $2 million now, including physical gold bullion) has been this incredibly steady rock. We’re talking about a significant portion of our wealth, and seeing that stability while everything else was a rollercoaster has been a huge eye-opener. The conversation finally turned a corner last month when she brought up diversifying her own retirement accounts into gold and silver. I nearly fell out of my chair. She’s been doing her own research, reading up on the Fed, inflation, geopolitical instability – all the drivers we precious metals guys have been talking about for years.
Now, we're actively looking into setting up a Gold IRA for her, probably starting with a rollover of about $500k from her old 401k and potentially adding some direct contributions. The biggest hurdle for her now is wrapping her head around the specifics of picking a custodian and understanding the storage options. It’s a good problem to have, honestly. I've always stressed diversification, and this feels like a major victory not just for our portfolio, but for our shared financial philosophy. Anyone else manage to convert their significant other after a long haul? What finally clicked for them?
