Why I Diversified My Gold IRA with Some Silver (and you might want to too)

So I just pulled the trigger and added a chunky bit of silver to my Gold IRA, and honestly, it feels good. For context, I’ve got about $180k in there now, mostly gold, but I’ve been thinking about this for a while. Being a secretary for an oil company here in Tulsa, I hear a lot of chatter from the execs about inflation, geopolitical stuff, and just general economic uncertainty. They’re always talking about hedging and diversification, and it really got me thinking about my own portfolio.
My Gold IRA has been doing really well, don't get me wrong. I started it a few years back with about $50k, and it’s grown steadily. But every time I looked at it, I kept thinking, "Am I putting all my eggs too much in one golden basket?" That's when I started researching silver more seriously. It has a lower price point, so you can acquire more physical ounces, and it's got significant industrial demand that gold doesn't necessarily boast to the same degree. It feels like a smart move for additional downside protection, especially if things get really choppy.
The process itself was pretty straightforward. I worked with the same custodian I used for my gold conversion. They laid out the different types of silver coins and bars eligible for an IRA, and I went with some American Silver Eagles – felt familiar and trustworthy. It's a small percentage of my total IRA right now, probably around 10-12%, but it feels like a crucial layer of diversification. Has anyone else here done something similar? What was your reasoning?
I’m curious to hear if others have added silver to their precious metals IRAs and what your thoughts are on the gold-to-silver ratio these days. Is anyone else feeling that itch to broaden their precious metals exposure beyond just gold? Thoughts?
