What's the real minimum for a gold IRA? Thinking about diving in.

Okay, so I've been doing my research on Gold IRAs for a while now, mostly as a hedge against the crazy market swings we’ve been seeing. I've got a decent chunk of my portfolio, probably around $750k right now, but it's largely tied up in tech stocks and real estate here in Austin. I'm keen on diversifying, and the idea of physical gold in an IRA is increasingly appealing, especially with all the talk of impending recessions.
I keep seeing these "minimum investment" numbers thrown around online – some sites say $10k, others $25k. Is there a magic number, or does it totally depend on the custodian? I'm not looking to dump my entire portfolio into gold right away, but I want to make sure I'm hitting a sensible threshold that makes the fees worthwhile. I'm thinking of starting with maybe $50k to $75k, focusing on some American Gold Eagles initially, but I'm open to other options.
For those of you who've already gone through this, what was your initial investment like? Did you feel like you needed a certain amount to really "get started" without the fees eating too much into your gains? Any custodians that are more flexible with lower minimums, or conversely, ones that are better for higher amounts where the fees are more competitive? Really appreciate any insights – trying to make a smart move here.
