Morning, folks. Been meaning to share my experience with rolling over a decent chunk of my old 401k into a Gold IRA, especially with all the noise out there lately. For years, most of my retirement was tied up in the usual suspects – stocks, bonds, a bit of real estate. Nothing wrong with that, mind you, it served me well when I was at the helm of my last company. But after retiring down here in Palm Beach a few years back, I started looking at things a bit differently.
My concern really ramped up around early 2022 when inflation started getting sticky, and frankly, I just didn't like the feel of the broader market. I always had some precious metals exposure, but it was just a small percentage of my personal portfolio. That's when I seriously started researching Gold IRAs. Spoke with a couple of different firms, did my due diligence, read all the horror stories and success stories. Ultimately decided to pull the trigger on a substantial rollover – took about $1.5 million out of my old 401k and moved it into physical gold and silver allocated storage. It wasn't a quick process, and the paperwork was a bit of a slog, but the peace of mind knowing that portion of my wealth isn't instantly impacted by every little market tremor has been invaluable.
The main holdings are American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Maple Leafs. Diversified with a good chunk of silver as well, mostly in U.S. Silver Eagles. I'm feeling pretty good about the decision given the current geopolitical landscape and all the talk about de-dollarization, but I’m always interested in other perspectives.
What are your thoughts on gold's performance, specifically within an IRA, for the next 12-24 months? Are any of you looking at adding more, or perhaps diversifying into other alternative assets within your retirement accounts? Would love to hear from others who have made similar moves, or even those who chose a different path. Always good to compare notes.
