Been seeing a lot of chatter lately about a potential recession, and honestly, it's bringing back some familiar anxieties. After a career spanning a few different global hotspots, you start to get a nose for when things feel... off. My retirement portfolio, sitting pretty around the 650k mark thanks to a good chunk of it being in gold coins and bars, feels okay, but I'm always looking at the next horizon. We've ridden out a few storms here in Hawaii, and diversification has always been key.
My big question for the group is, for those of you who have substantial portions of your IRA in physical gold – what are your current thoughts on adding more right now? Part of me thinks it's a no-brainer with the current global uncertainties, especially with what's happening geopolitically in the Pacific. Another part wonders if I should be looking at other hedges too. I remember back in '08, watching friends lose half their 401ks, and that was a wake-up call for me to really dig into precious metals. It's why a significant portion of my allocation went that route.
I’ve been eyeing some of the 1oz American Gold Eagles again, but also wondering about silver – has anyone upped their silver holdings significantly as a recession hedge? I've mostly stayed with gold, but the gold-to-silver ratio is something I periodically check. Also, for anyone using it, how reliable do you find the “Gold vs Stocks Comparison” tool at https://goldvsstocks.goldirablueprint.com/?period=10Y for making these kinds of decisions? I usually look at the 10-year trend there before making any big moves, just to get a broader perspective beyond the daily headlines.
It's easy to get caught up in the hype on either side, but I always find the real-world experiences from this community a lot more grounded than what you hear on the financial news channels. Any thoughts on strategies, specific metals, or even just general sentiment would be much appreciated. Stay safe out there, everyone.
