Thinking about smaller Gold IRA investments - who's good?
- •I've had a pretty solid retirement since I left the service, and a good chunk of my portfolio is already in more traditional assets.
- •It's not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, but I'm looking for a company that treats even these "smaller" investments seriously.
- •My biggest concern is finding a company that doesn't nickel and dime you with fees just because you're below their "premium" tier.
I've been hearing a lot more chatter about precious metals lately, not just from my usual financial news, but even some of my old military buddies from San Diego are starting to look into it. I've had a pretty solid retirement since I left the service, and a good chunk of my portfolio is already in more traditional assets. I'm sitting on about $350k right now, but I'm thinking of dedicating a smaller portion, maybe $25k-$50k, to a Gold IRA for some extra security and diversification. It's not a huge amount in the grand scheme of things, but I'm looking for a company that treats even these "smaller" investments seriously.
My biggest concern is finding a company that doesn't nickel and dime you with fees just because you're below their "premium" tier. I've read some horror stories about hidden costs and aggressive sales tactics, and honestly, after years of budgeting and planning, I want transparency above all else. I’m really not looking to jump through hoops or get constantly upsold. Just solid service for a solid investment.
Does anyone have experience with firms that cater well to this kind of investment? I know a lot of the big names get thrown around, but I'm curious if there are some less prominent but equally reputable options out there. Or even if the big guys like Augusta, Birch Gold, or Goldco are still good options for someone not dumping six figures into it immediately.
What kind of annual fees should I be looking out for? Are there specific custodians that are more investor-friendly for these lower amounts? Any personal anecdotes about your experience, good or bad, would be super helpful. I'm trying to do my due diligence here in San Diego, and local recommendations are always a plus, but online experiences are just as valuable. Thanks for any insights!
