Thinking about platinum for my IRA – what's the word?
- •Been doing a bit of digging into platinum lately, specifically from a Gold IRA perspective, and I'm curious what this community thinks.
- •With the current prices, does it feel like platinum is genuinely undervalued right now, or am I just seeing what I want to see?

I’ve got about $180k in my self-directed IRA, mostly in physical gold and some silver, but I’m always looking to diversify smartly. Running a horse farm out here in Louisville, you learn to be practical with your investments – I prefer things I can hold, things that have intrinsic value. I’m thinking about allocating maybe 5-10% of my precious metals holdings into platinum if the sentiment is right. It seems to have some industrial demand that gold doesn't, which could be a kicker in the long run.
I remember back in the mid-2000s when platinum was trading higher than gold for a spell, and it makes you wonder if it’s due for another run, or if those days are behind us. The auto industry is a big factor, obviously, but what about other uses? Are there new technologies emerging that could drive demand? I’m trying to avoid getting caught up in the hype and make a reasoned decision here.
Anyone here already hold platinum in their Gold IRA? What's your experience been like, and what are your projections looking ahead? Is it a good contrarian play, or just a volatile asset that's best left alone in a retirement account? Appreciate any insights you folks have. Thanks!
