Hey everyone, just dipping my toes into the precious metal IRA waters and had a quick question about platinum. I've got a modest amount transferred over, sitting around $20k right now, and I'm a teacher here in Columbus, so I'm really trying to make smart, long-term moves with what I have. I already have some gold in there, but I've been reading a bit about platinum and it seems... interesting?
I know platinum has been trading at a discount to gold for a while now, and a lot of the talk I'm seeing online points to its industrial demand, especially with the push for hydrogen and fuel cells. Makes me wonder if it's currently undervalued. Like, is this a good entry point if I'm looking to diversify beyond just gold and silver? I'm not looking to dump my entire portfolio into it, but I'm considering maybe a 10-15% allocation if the consensus is that it's got significant upside potential over the next 5-10 years.
Anyone here have platinum in their Gold IRA? What are your thoughts on its future performance, especially concerning industrial demand vs. its historical role as a precious metal? I'm trying to wrap my head around the different factors that drive its price. I've only really focused on gold's safe-haven appeal and inflation hedge up until now. Would love to hear some perspectives from those who are more experienced in this area.
Is now a good time to buy, or is it still a bit speculative? Any personal experiences with platinum's volatility compared to gold and silver in your self-directed IRAs would be super helpful too. Thanks in advance for any insights!
