Been doing a lot of reading lately about diversifying my Gold IRA and palladium keeps popping up. My current portfolio is mostly gold and a little silver, sitting around $75k right now. I'm approaching retirement here in Boise in about 10-12 years, and as the mayor of our little town, I'm always looking for ways to be smart with my investments, not just for myself but also to keep an eye on broader economic trends.

I know palladium has had some pretty wild swings – seen those charts. From what I understand, a lot of its demand comes from the automotive industry (catalytic converters), which makes me a little nervous about EV adoption potentially impacting it long term. On the other hand, the supply side seems pretty constrained, mostly from Russia and South Africa, which adds another layer of geopolitical risk but also potential for price spikes. Has anyone here actually held palladium in their IRA? What's been your experience?

I’m not looking to dump my gold holdings or anything, but maybe allocate a small percentage, say 5-10%, to palladium. What companies have you worked with for palladium coins or bars that are IRA-approved? Are the premiums usually much higher than gold? I'm used to working with Augusta Precious Metals for my gold, and they've been great, but I haven't explored palladium options with them yet. Part of me thinks it’s a good hedge, another part thinks it's a bit too speculative for IRA funds. Thoughts?

Hey, I've actually looked into palladium for my IRA too! My situation isn't quite the same (not a mayor, haha), but I was in a similar boat with a gold-heavy portfolio and retirement on the horizon. I ended up adding a small percentage of palladium and it's been interesting to watch. It definitely feels like a good diversifier, especially with all the talk about its use in tech and industry. Worth doing your homework on, for sure.

Interesting! So you're thinking about adding palladium to your *existing* Gold IRA? I was under the impression that most Gold IRAs only allow for gold and silver. Are you using a specific custodian that offers palladium as an option for a self-directed IRA, or is there something else I'm missing?

Palladium is interesting, for sure, especially with the industrial demand. But it's also a lot more volatile than gold or silver, which might be something to consider since you're so close to retirement. That $75k could take a pretty wild ride. Have you looked into platinum at all? It sometimes offers a nice middle ground between gold's stability and palladium's potential for growth, without quite the same dramatic swings.

Hey there! Palladium's an interesting one for sure, especially with its industrial demand.

One thing to keep in mind, beyond just price fluctuations, is the specific types of palladium products allowed in an IRA. It's not all palladium, some forms aren't IRA-eligible. Make sure you're looking at things like American Palladium Eagles or specific bars from approved refiners. The IRS website has some good info on what's considered an "approved" precious metal for IRAs if you want to dig into the details. Good luck with your research!

Hey, absolutely! I've been looking into palladium too for similar reasons. My IRA is a bit smaller, around $50k, but the idea of adding some diversification beyond just gold and silver has been really appealing. Especially with the industrial demand for palladium, it seems like a smart move. Good luck in Boise!
