Been doing a lot of reading lately about diversifying my Gold IRA and palladium keeps popping up. My current portfolio is mostly gold and a little silver, sitting around $75k right now. I'm approaching retirement here in Boise in about 10-12 years, and as the mayor of our little town, I'm always looking for ways to be smart with my investments, not just for myself but also to keep an eye on broader economic trends.
I know palladium has had some pretty wild swings – seen those charts. From what I understand, a lot of its demand comes from the automotive industry (catalytic converters), which makes me a little nervous about EV adoption potentially impacting it long term. On the other hand, the supply side seems pretty constrained, mostly from Russia and South Africa, which adds another layer of geopolitical risk but also potential for price spikes. Has anyone here actually held palladium in their IRA? What's been your experience?
I’m not looking to dump my gold holdings or anything, but maybe allocate a small percentage, say 5-10%, to palladium. What companies have you worked with for palladium coins or bars that are IRA-approved? Are the premiums usually much higher than gold? I'm used to working with Augusta Precious Metals for my gold, and they've been great, but I haven't explored palladium options with them yet. Part of me thinks it’s a good hedge, another part thinks it's a bit too speculative for IRA funds. Thoughts?
