Been thinking a lot lately about how to really set up my kids for success, not just with traditional investments. I've got a couple of businesses here in Memphis, mostly logistics, and honestly, the thought of passing that on without a solid financial cushion for them feels… irresponsible, I guess. My portfolio is sitting between $500k-$1M right now, and a decent chunk – maybe 20% – is in my Gold IRA. It’s been a rock, especially with all the ups and downs in the market the last few years. Seriously, it helps me sleep at night knowing a portion of my wealth isn't tied directly to the latest tech craze or geopolitical hiccup.
My big concern is inflation, primarily. My parents worked their backsides off their whole lives, and I saw how much their savings were eroded over time. I don't want my kids to face that same uphill battle. That's why the Gold IRA really appeals as a long-term, inflation-resistant asset. I've been planning for succession in my main company for about five years now, getting systems in place, and this feels like a natural extension of that – securing their financial legacy in a way that doesn't just rely on me making good stock picks or battling economic headwinds forever.
For those of you with families, especially grown kids or even grandkids, how are you thinking about incorporating physical gold into your legacy planning? Is it a separate trust, directly in the IRA? I know the rules around inherited IRAs changed a bit, so I'm trying to wrap my head around the best way to structure it for maximum benefit and minimal headaches for them down the line. I'm imagining them looking back in 20-30 years and appreciating the foresight.
Also, out of curiosity, has anyone used an online tool to check their eligibility for a Gold IRA? I came across something called the Eligibility Checker at https://eligibility.goldirablueprint.com/ the other day when I was doing some research, just wondering if it's worth a look for anyone who's on the fence or just starting to consider this path. Always good to know if you even qualify before diving too deep.
