Thinking about my first Gold IRA, any advice on companies?
- •I've been stashing away some physical gold over the last few years, mostly small bars and Eagles, and it's always felt like a good, solid move.
- •I'm a healthcare administrator here in Tampa, pretty steady income, and my existing portfolio is sitting around the $150k mark.
- •For those of you who've already gone through this, what gold IRA companies did you use?
I've been stashing away some physical gold over the last few years, mostly small bars and Eagles, and it's always felt like a good, solid move. I'm a healthcare administrator here in Tampa, pretty steady income, and my existing portfolio is sitting around the $150k mark. Now I'm considering rolling over a portion of my conventional IRA into a Gold IRA, thinking about maybe $30k-$40k to diversify and really lean into that long-term stability.
For those of you who've already gone through this, what gold IRA companies did you use? I've been doing some initial searches, and it feels like there are a million out there, all promising the world. I'm especially concerned about fees – setup, annual storage, transaction. It's not like I'm trying to trade daily, I'm just looking for a secure place to hold a tangible asset for decades. Any nightmare stories or companies to absolutely avoid?
Also, how was the actual rollover process? Was it smooth and quick, or did it feel like pulling teeth? I'm imagining a lot of paperwork and phone calls, but hoping it's more streamlined than that. I'm pretty busy with work and family, so something relatively painless would be a huge plus. Any specific questions I should be asking the company reps that aren't obvious?
Mainly, I'm just looking for personal experiences from people who have actually done this. It's a significant chunk of change for me, and while I'm a firm believer in gold as a hedge, I want to make sure I'm doing it right from the start. Thanks in advance for any insights!
