Thinking about gold rounds for the grandkids - legacy

Been doing a lot of thinking lately about legacy planning, especially with the market acting like a teenager on a sugar high. My Roth is looking solid, but honestly, I'm thinking beyond just retirement for myself. I've got a couple of grandkids, still pretty young, and I'm starting to toy with the idea of setting up something really tangible for them down the line, outside of the usual trust funds and 529s.
I’ve got a good chunk of my portfolio (about 15% of my ~$750k, so around $112k) in a Gold IRA, mostly in Eagles and Maple Leafs, as a hedge against all this volatility. It’s been a smart move, especially being in Austin with the tech market always feeling a bit… fluid. But for the grandkids, I was considering something a bit simpler, maybe even more symbolic, like gold rounds instead of coins for a direct gift.
The thought is, these wouldn't be for immediate returns or trading, but more like a physical token of value they can hold onto for decades. Something that feels like a legacy. It's not about making them rich, but about giving them a foundational asset that isn't tied to the digital ether. Imagine them, 40 years from now, pulling out a couple of these rounds and remembering their grandpa. Anyone else gone this route for family legacy? What are the pros and cons you’ve encountered with gifting physical gold (rounds specifically) to younger generations?
Beyond just the gifting, I'm also curious about the logistics. Are there specific types of rounds that hold up better over time, or are more recognized for resale value down the line? Storage is another thought – obviously, it wouldn't be in my Gold IRA. Any best practices for secure personal storage of something like this if I’m building up a small stash over a few years before giving it to them?
