Been looking at diversifying my precious metals IRA a bit beyond just gold and silver, and palladium has been catching my eye. My current IRA is sitting pretty at around $380k, mostly in physical gold and some silver Eagles I’ve been stacking for a while now. I inherited this portfolio from my grandfather a few years back, and while he was all about the foundational yellow metal, I'm wondering if there’s a place for something a bit more, shall we say, industrially relevant now.
My career's in bourbon, specifically on the executive side of things here in Lexington, and I appreciate a good, long-term play, kinda like a well-aged barrel. Gold and silver feel like that – classic, reliable. But palladium… it feels like it has some serious upside with the automotive industry's push for cleaner emissions (catalytic converters, etc.), even with the EV transition happening. It's a bit more of a niche play, but that scarcity factor is definitely attractive. I'm thinking maybe a 5-10% allocation, nothing crazy to start.
Has anyone here ventured into palladium for their precious metals IRA? What were your experiences? Any pitfalls I should be aware of beyond the usual market volatility? I'm curious about the storage logistics too, if it differs much from gold/silver through the typical IRA custodians. Just trying to get a feel for whether it's truly a smart move or if I should just stick to the tried-and-true. Appreciate any insights folks can share!
