Hey everyone, Andrew Roberts here from sunny Palm Beach. Hope you're all having a great week! I wanted to throw something out there for discussion, especially for those of you who might be considering—or have already gone through—a significant rollover into precious metals. As some of you know, I’m a big believer in tangible assets, and a substantial portion of my IRA (we're talking well into the 7-figure range, think somewhere in that $1.5M-$2M ballpark these days) is allocated to gold and silver. This wasn't always the case, though. When I was winding down my corporate career a decade or so ago, a lot of my retirement savings were still heavily weighted in traditional equities.
The decision to roll over a significant chunk of that into physical metals was a deliberate one for me, driven by a desire for true diversification and a hedge against the kind of systemic risks I'd seen play out over my career as a CEO. I went through a pretty meticulous process, researching different custodians and figuring out the logistics of taking receipt of the metals. I remember the first time I actually saw the bars and coins that represented a good chunk of my future – it was a really profound moment. Much different than just seeing numbers on a brokerage statement, you know?
I'm curious to hear about your experiences. For those of you who've done a rollover into precious metals, what was your "aha!" moment? What were your biggest concerns going into it, and how did you overcome them? Did you go for a direct rollover, or perhaps an indirect one? For those still on the fence, what are your biggest reservations? Cost? Logistics? Just curious about what’s holding people back or what’s pushed them forward.
Always great to hear different perspectives on this. Let's get a good discussion going!
