Small investor looking for Gold IRA advice - Louisville area
- •Been running the numbers on the back of tractor brochures for months now, mostly because the market feels like a runaway buggy lately.
- •I’m based out here in Louisville, got a horse farm, so I'm used to tangible assets and knowing where my money is actually going.
- •I like the idea of owning physical gold, not just some paper certificate.
Alright, so I’ve been kicking around the idea of a Gold IRA for a while now, looking to diversify out of just stocks and some of the farm's operating capital. I’ve probably got around $150k-$200k I’m looking to allocate, but honestly, even that feels like a 'small' amount when I see some of these places talking about their high-net-worth clients. Been running the numbers on the back of tractor brochures for months now, mostly because the market feels like a runaway buggy lately.
I’m based out here in Louisville, got a horse farm, so I'm used to tangible assets and knowing where my money is actually going. I like the idea of owning physical gold, not just some paper certificate. I’ve looked at a few places online, but they all seem to have glowing five-star reviews or outrageously bad ones, nothing really in-between. Are there any companies that actually cater to people who aren’t looking to drop a million dollars right off the bat, but still want solid service and reasonable fees?
Specifically, I'm thinking about setting up a self-directed IRA with gold coins. I’m not interested in bars right now – the coins just feel more accessible and liquid if I ever needed to sell a portion down the line. I’ve heard good things about American Gold Eagles, but are there other common options people are having good luck with? What kind of setup fees or annual storage fees should I be realistic about for my portfolio size, say aiming for a $50k allocation to start?
Anyone out there in a similar boat, or got a smaller portfolio in a Gold IRA? What companies did you end up going with and, more importantly, why? I’m looking for practical advice here, not just marketing fluff. Any red flags to watch out for especially with the 'smaller' accounts?
