Okay, so I’ve been seeing a lot of chatter lately about gold IRAs, and it's making me wonder if I picked the right company. I’m a nurse here in Seattle, and last year I finally pulled the trigger on a gold IRA. My main goal is just retirement security, you know? The market feels so shaky, and I wanted something outside of stocks. I rolled over about $70k from an old 401k into it. I went with American Hartford Gold based on some recommendations I saw online, and it generally felt pretty smooth, but now I'm second-guessing everything.
For those of you with smaller portfolios, say under $100k like mine, what companies did you go with? Did you have any issues with account minimums or fees eating into your modest portfolio? I'm trying to be smart about this, and while I liked the no-fee promotion at first, I'm worried about what happens down the line. I'm not looking to get rich overnight, just protect what I've got saved up. I feel like sometimes these companies cater more to the huge investors, and I'm just a small fish.
Also, completely separate thought, but has anyone started thinking about RMDs yet? I'm still a ways off, but my dad just got hit with his first required minimum distribution, and it was a bit of a shock to him. I was poking around and found this RMD Calculator at goldirablueprint.com. Seems like a pretty handy tool to get a rough idea, especially for those of us who aren't financial wizards. Just wondering if anyone else has used it or something similar to plan ahead.
Anyway, any insights on small investor-friendly gold IRA companies, or just general advice on managing a gold IRA below the six-figure mark, would be hugely appreciated. Is American Hartford Gold generally considered good for my portfolio size, or should I be looking elsewhere? I'm willing to switch if it makes financial sense long-term. Thanks!
