Silver's industrial demand - anyone else watching
- •Lately, I've been really digging into the industrial demand side of silver.
- •We all know about its use in solar panels, EVs, and all sorts of electronics.
- •It makes me wonder if the market is truly pricing in how much more silver we’re going to need in the coming years.
I've been holding a pretty good chunk of my precious metals portfolio in gold, as most of us probably do, but I've also got a decent allocation to silver – maybe 25% of my total metals when you factor in some of the physical rounds I picked up a few years back. With my IRA, I'm probably sitting just over the $100k mark right now, feeling good with gold's performance, but silver has my attention for different reasons.
Lately, I've been really digging into the industrial demand side of silver. We all know about its use in solar panels, EVs, and all sorts of electronics. My day job as a healthcare administrator in Tampa means I’m constantly seeing new tech come out, and every time I do, I can't help but think about the silver needed to make it all happen. It makes me wonder if the market is truly pricing in how much more silver we’re going to need in the coming years. Are we underestimating how quickly this demand is going to outpace actual supply?
I feel like the "jewelry and investment" narrative for silver, while still true, sometimes overshadows this massive and growing industrial component. With talks of more widespread renewable energy adoption and tech innovations, it just seems inevitable that industrial demand is going to be a huge, perhaps the huge, driver for silver prices. What are your thoughts on this? Are you factoring industrial demand heavily into your silver investment decisions, or are you still primarily focused on its monetary metal aspects?
I’m constantly re-evaluating my positions, and I’m genuinely curious to hear if others are weighing industrial demand as heavily as I am. Does anyone have any good data sources or analyses on silver's industrial supply/demand projections they'd recommend?
