Been thinking a lot about my precious metals allocation lately, specifically between gold and silver. I did a rollover from my old 401k into a Gold IRA about 18 months ago, right after I officially hung up the uniform. Decided to go with a 70/30 gold-to-silver split for the physical metals in the account. My rationale at the time was balancing gold's stability with silver's industrial demand and higher upside potential, especially given the lower cost per ounce. I saw a lot of volatility in the market and wanted some tangible assets outside of traditional paper. Current portfolio is well into the seven figures, and this precious metals allocation is a smaller, but significant, piece of that puzzle – probably around 8% of my total investable assets.

I feel pretty good about the gold side, especially after seeing the Gold vs Stocks Comparison tool. Over the last 10 years, gold's performance has been impressive, and that long-term stability is exactly what I was looking for, particularly with my retirement horizon being a bit closer now. The silver has had its moments, but the ride has definitely been more turbulent. It's not bothering me terribly, as I went in with eyes wide open about silver's volatility, but I'm wondering if a 70/30 split is still optimal for my situation moving forward. Part of me thinks about increasing the gold proportion, maybe to 80/20, just to lean into that proven stability a bit more as a hedge against inflation and general market uncertainty. Down here in Virginia Beach, I've seen enough economic cycles to know that protecting capital is just as important as growing it.

Anyone else here have strong feelings about their gold-to-silver allocation within a Gold IRA? Or maybe you've adjusted your strategy over time? I'm curious to hear what factors weighed into your decisions, especially from those who have been through a rollover themselves. Did you find a certain ratio worked better for your risk tolerance or financial goals? Always appreciate some thoughtful input from this community.

Hey, I hear you on the gold/silver split! I did pretty much the same thing a few years back with my old 401k. I went a bit heavier on the silver initially, like a 60/40 split, figuring it had more room to run. Glad to see someone else thinking these things through.

Interesting split! What made you decide on a 70/30 gold-to-silver ratio for the physical metals specifically? Was it the initial advice you got, or did you do some research that pointed you in that direction?

Interesting split! I've been eyeing a similar rollover but was leaning more towards a higher gold percentage, maybe 80/20 or even 90/10. My thinking was that gold tends to hold its value more consistently during economic downturns, whereas silver can be a bit more volatile. I get the appeal of silver's industrial demand and lower price point for potential upside, but for long-term retirement savings, I'm prioritizing stability over massive gains. What made you go for the 70/30? Just curious to hear your rationale!
