Okay, so I'm super new to this whole precious metals thing, especially silver. I've been eyeing a Gold IRA for a bit now, mostly just dabbling in research, but then I stumbled into silver as a more accessible starting point outside of the retirement account. I'm a teacher here in Columbus, so my disposable income isn't exactly sky-high. I decided around six months ago to just start buying a little bit every paycheck, sometimes just an ounce here and there from a local coin shop I found.
My current "strategy" (if you can even call it that, haha) is honestly just to accumulate as much physical silver as I can afford without feeling like I'm eating ramen every night. So far, I've managed to stack about 20 one-ounce rounds and three 5-ounce bars. It's not much, I know, but seeing that little pile grow is actually super satisfying. I'm also finding myself checking r/silverbugs way more often than I probably should. Does anyone else get that little dopamine hit when a new order arrives, even if it's just a couple of ounces?
I'm leaning heavily towards bars for future purchases, given the slightly lower premiums. I'd love to eventually get to some 10oz bars, maybe even a kilo one day if I'm feeling ambitious. I'm just storing it super simply right now, nothing fancy, since the total value is still pretty low (maybe $600-$700 at current prices). My main goal is really just wealth preservation and a hedge against inflation. For anyone who's been doing this longer, especially on a tighter budget like mine, any tips on maximizing my buys? Should I be looking more at junk silver?
