Been doing a lot of reading here lately, really appreciate all the insights. I’m finally looking to diversify a good chunk of my retirement savings into a Silver IRA. I've got around $300k in my current 401k/brokerage, and I'm thinking of rolling over maybe $50k-$75k into physical silver. It’s a decent chunk of change for me, definitely not small potatoes but I know some folks here are playing with much bigger numbers. I've been in the bourbon game for a while, appreciate tangible assets and legacy businesses, and the idea of holding something real versus just paper is really appealing to me, especially with all the economic weirdness going on.
I guess my main hang-up is feeling like I’m going into this a bit blind. There are so many companies out there aggressively pitching their services, and it’s hard to cut through the noise. What are some of the go-to companies for someone like me in the $50k-$75k range? Are there specific custodians or dealers that are known for being straightforward, transparent on fees, and perhaps more geared towards individual investors rather than massive institutional clients? I don't need a white-glove service, just good, honest business.
My concern is getting nickel-and-dimed on fees or somehow getting caught up in a less-than-reputable operation. I’m based in Lexington, KY, and while I know most of this is done remotely, any local perspectives or things to look out for in terms of storage or regional regulations would be helpful. What should I absolutely be asking these companies upfront? Any red flags I should be acutely aware of when I start making calls next week? Any advice from you pros would be massively appreciated – thanks in advance!
