Finally pulled the trigger and added silver to my Gold IRA - here's why.

Been lurking here a while, and finally decided to post up about something I just did. For years, my entire self-directed IRA was 100% gold. Mostly AU Eagles, a few Canadian Maples mixed in. Always felt good having that physical asset, especially with all the economic weirdness going on. Being in construction here in Chicago, I see firsthand how things ebb and flow, and concrete and steel aren't the only tangible assets I want backing my future. My portfolio's sitting comfortably in the mid-high six figures, and I've always been a big believer in not having all your eggs in one basket, even if that basket is solid gold.
So, why silver now? Honestly, a few things clicked. The gold-to-silver ratio has been whispering to me for a while. It just felt⦠off. Every time I looked at the charts, silver just seemed undervalued compared to gold. Plus, the industrial demand for silver, especially with all the tech and green energy stuff ramping up, just makes sense. It's not just an investment vehicle, it's a critical component for so many modern applications. That fundamental utility adds another layer of security in my eyes that gold, while king, doesn't quite have in the same way.
I ended up allocating about 15% of my precious metals IRA to silver, mostly in US Silver Eagles. Yeah, the premiums are a thing, I get it, but knowing I'm getting a recognized, government-backed product for portability and future liquidity just makes me sleep better. Itβs not like Iβm day trading this stuff, this is for the long haul. My wife thinks Iβm a bit obsessive sometimes, but hey, building a business from the ground up teaches you to look around corners, right?
Anyone else here diversified into silver recently? What factors pushed you over the edge? And for those who are 100% gold, what's your reasoning for sticking strictly to the yellow metal? Always interested to hear other perspectives from folks who are serious about their financial security.
