Silver Eagles vs. Generic Rounds for IRA (Rollover from 401k)

Okay, so I’m finally getting my ducks in a row with the Gold IRA rollover we talked about in the last thread. The 401k from my old tech company is officially in a self-directed IRA, and now I’m trying to decide on the actual physical assets. My advisor gave me the rundown, and I’m leaning heavily into silver, maybe 30-40% of the metals portion, with gold making up the rest. I'm sitting on about $3.5 million from the acquisition, so we're talking about a significant chunk here.
My big question is surrounding silver American Eagles versus generic silver rounds/bars. My advisor mentioned Eagles can command a higher premium when selling, due to their recognizable nature and government backing. But, man, that premium on the buy side cuts into the amount of actual silver I can acquire. For example, I saw a 2023 Silver Eagle for like $32-$35 an ounce the other day, while generic 1 oz rounds were closer to $27-$28. That’s a noticeable difference when you’re talking about buying thousands of ounces.
I’m in Dublin, Ohio, and my main goal here is long-term wealth preservation and a hedge against inflation. This isn’t play money; it’s a big chunk of my retirement strategy. My gut says to go with generic rounds to maximize the sheer volume of silver I hold, since it's the commodity price I'm banking on increasing. However, the "liquidity premium" of Eagles is tempting if things really hit the fan and I need to sell. Has anyone here run into this decision with their own Gold IRA? What did you end up doing and why?
Is the potential for a slightly easier sale worth the higher upfront cost and less physical metal? Or is the "premium" just something to disregard for a long-term hold like this? I’d love to hear some real-world experiences from people who’ve actually done this. Thanks in advance!
