    The 3-step rollover process explained

Okay, so I've been kicking around this question for a while and figured this would be the best place to get some diverse opinions. I've got a Gold IRA that's sitting right around the $75k mark right now. Up till now, it's been pretty much exclusively gold and I've been happy with the stability it brings, especially given all the craziness in the world. As mayor here in Boise, I'm always looking at the bigger picture for our community, and that definitely spills over into how I manage my own investments. I'm trying to be responsible and forward-thinking.

Lately, though, I've been reading a lot more about silver's industrial demand and its potential for more upside if the economy really starts humming again. Part of me thinks it makes sense to diversify a little within the precious metals space, especially as my portfolio isn't some massive institutional fund. I'm not looking to dump all my gold, but I'm definitely wondering if a 10-15% allocation to silver would be wise. My current provider has some good options, but I'm still weighing the pros and cons.

My main concern is liquidity if I ever needed to access those funds in a pinch, and also the volatility. Gold feels like the steady anchor, and while a mayor needs to be open to new ideas, I also value predictability. For those of you with similar-sized portfolios (or even smaller), how have you approached the gold/silver split? Did you start with just gold and then add silver later, or did you dive in with both from the get-go? Any folks here from Idaho who've found good local resources for this?

What are your thoughts on a 85/15 gold/silver split for a portfolio of my size? Is the potential upside of silver worth the increased volatility, especially considering it's still about protecting my retirement savings? Any advice or personal experiences would be super helpful in sorting this out.

Totally agree with the sentiment here. Gold for stability, silver for that extra pop. I've got a similar setup, actually. My IRA is a bit smaller, around $50k, and I went for about a 70/30 split, gold to silver. It's been great for diversifying without feeling like I'm taking on too much risk. The silver has outperformed a bit lately, which is nice to see!

Super interesting question, OP! I was in a similar boat a few years back with my Roth IRA. Had it almost entirely in gold, then started wondering about silver as a way to diversify a bit, especially since my portfolio wasn't massive either. Ended up putting about 15% into silver. The volatility was a bit more noticeable, but it definitely added some interesting dynamics. Glad I did it, honestly. What are your thoughts on potential price movements for silver vs. gold in the next few years?

Hey, interesting question! I'm curious what percentage of silver you're considering adding to your portfolio. Are we talking a small 5-10% or something more substantial like 20-25%?

Hey, interesting thought process here. While I get the appeal of silver's lower entry point and potential for bigger swings, especially with a "smaller" (though $75k is nothing to sneeze at!) portfolio, have you considered the liquidity aspect?

Gold generally has a much deeper and more liquid market than silver. If you ever needed to sell a portion of your holdings quickly for whatever reason, gold might be a less volatile and smoother experience. Just something to keep in mind when diversifying within precious metals, particularly for an IRA where ease of transaction can be a factor.

Great question! A lot of people wonder about silver when their portfolio isn't massive. While gold is the heavyweight for stability, silver can offer some serious upside potential, especially in a smaller portfolio where growth is a bigger priority. It tends to be more volatile, but that can also mean bigger gains.

One thing to consider is the gold-to-silver ratio. It can give you a historical perspective on which metal might be undervalued. There are some good resources out there that track it daily. This link to Gold and Silver's ratio tracker is a decent one to keep an eye on!
