Been seeing a lot of posts lately about starter kits and first buys, and it got me thinking about my own journey into the precious metals space. Started stacking silver a few years back, probably around 2020 or so. My old man always talked about the importance of tangible assets, especially with our family's timber holdings, so it’s always been in my DNA to think long-term and about generational wealth. I'm sitting on a decent stack now, probably close to $50k in physical silver (mostly Eagles and Maple Leafs, a few bars too), which is part of a larger ~$400k portfolio that’s diversified across timberland, some equities, and a decent chunk in a Gold IRA.
My strategy for silver is pretty straightforward: think of it as a long-term hedge against inflation and a way to preserve purchasing power. I'm not looking to get rich quick off daily price swings; that's not what this is about for me. I try to dollar-cost average, adding a few ounces here and there whenever I see a dip or have some spare capital sitting around. With the current economic climate and all the uncertainty globally, it feels like a really solid foundation to have. I live out here in Spokane, and while the timber industry is robust, you still hear whispers about market corrections and what-ifs. Having that physical silver just provides a little extra peace of mind, frankly.
One thing I’ve found super useful for putting things into perspective is the Gold vs Stocks Comparison tool. I use it more for my Gold IRA holdings, but it really highlights just how well precious metals have performed against traditional equities over long periods. It's wild to see the data laid out like that and really reinforces why I'm doing what I'm doing. It’s not just paranoia; there’s solid historical performance there.
What are some of your long-term strategies for silver? Am I being too conservative, or is anyone else primarily focused on a similar wealth preservation approach? Always curious to hear how others are thinking about this given the current market climate.
