I've been thinking a lot lately about the gold vs. silver allocation in my Gold IRA. My husband, bless his heart, was always so meticulous with our investments, and he really believed in precious metals as a way to protect our future. After he passed last year, I took over managing everything, and honestly, it's a lot to navigate. Most of what he set up for me is in gold – probably about 90% of my roughly $80,000 precious metals IRA is in gold coins and bars, with only about 10% in silver.

I'm here in Raleigh, and the news lately makes me a little uneasy. Inflation just seems like it's eating away at everything, and I really want to make sure I'm doing right by my husband's legacy. He worked so hard for us. I keep hearing chatter about silver having more upside potential than gold right now, and how it's more of an industrial metal too, which could be good with all the talk about green energy. Part of me worries I'm missing out on growth, but another part of me feels like gold is just… safer, you know? It’s what I’m comfortable with, because it’s what we always had.

Has anyone here diversified more heavily into silver recently? What factors pushed you to make that decision? I ran across some "Gold IRA Quiz" over at https://quiz.goldirablueprint.com/?forum that I took to try and learn more about gold IRAs in general, which was pretty helpful for understanding the basics. But it didn't really touch on this specific allocation question in detail. I'm just trying to understand if a 90/10 split makes sense these days, or if I should be aiming for something more like 70/30 or even 60/40.

Any advice or personal experiences would be so appreciated. It's tough trying to make these decisions on my own, and I value hearing from people who are in a similar boat. Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

Hey, I'm so sorry for your loss. It's completely understandable to be looking closely at your investments after such a big change.

When you're thinking about gold vs. silver, a lot of people like to consider the gold-to-silver ratio. It's basically how many ounces of silver it takes to buy one ounce of gold. Historically, when that ratio is high, it can sometimes indicate that silver is undervalued compared to gold, and vice-versa. It might be a helpful metric to keep an eye on as you decide whether to rebalance. Good luck!

Hey there. So sorry for your loss. It's tough navigating these things, especially when you're also dealing with grief.

I can totally relate to your situation. My dad was the finance guru in our family, and after he got sick, I had to step in. He was a huge gold guy, too. I actually ended up diversifying a bit into silver after talking to a few advisors, and I've been happy with how it's performed relative to my gold holdings. It definitely feels good to spread things out a bit, even if just for peace of mind. Good luck with whatever you decide!

Hey, I'm so sorry for your loss. It's really admirable that you're taking on managing the investments and thinking strategically about them.

You mentioned your husband was meticulous with investments – did he ever lean one way or the other on gold vs. silver in particular, or discuss his reasoning?

Hey there. First off, I'm really sorry to hear about your husband. It's tough enough managing things after a loss, let alone taking on investment decisions.

While many people do like to balance gold and silver, I wouldn't rush into a big shift unless you've done a lot of research yourself. Gold has historically been the more stable "store of wealth" for a good reason. Silver can be more volatile, and while that can mean bigger gains, it also means bigger dips. It really depends on your comfort level with risk and your long-term goals. Maybe try allocating a smaller percentage to silver at first if you want to diversify, rather than a large chunk all at once?

Totally agree with this! I've been debating the same thing myself. My portfolio is heavily weighted towards gold right now too, probably 85/15 gold to silver. I was just reading an article last week about how silver might have more upside potential in the coming years due to its industrial demand. Might be worth shifting a bit more over.
