Seriously, who are you all using for Gold IRA custodians? Looking for recommendations (and warnings!)

Okay, I know this gets asked a lot, but I'm at my wits' end trying to pick a custodian for my Gold IRA. I rolled over a big chunk of my tech company exit money into precious metals a couple of years back – we're talking about $2.5 million here that's currently sitting in physical gold and silver. I used a smaller, boutique firm initially, mostly because my financial advisor at the time swore by them, but their fees are starting to feel a bit... egregious, and their customer service has been pretty hit or miss lately. I’m based in Dublin, Ohio, for context, in case anyone has local insights, but really, I'm open to anything reputable nationwide.
My big concerns are obviously security, reasonable fees (management, storage, transaction – the whole shebang), and transparency. I need a custodian that understands the nuances of a larger account, not one that treats me like I’m moving my first $10k. I’ve heard horror stories about folks getting nickel-and-dimed or having assets tied up in bureaucratic nightmares. Trying to avoid that at all costs. I spent years grinding out 80-hour weeks developing software, so I’m not about to let some custodian play fast and loose with my retirement.
Anyone have custodians they swear by? Or, perhaps more importantly, any that you’d tell me to run screaming from? I'm particularly interested in those with good online portals for tracking assets and clear reporting. I’m also trying to get a handle on the tax implications of potentially switching custodians or making future distributions, so if anyone has used a good resource for that, I’m all ears. I just found this "Tax Calculator" tool at https://tax.goldirablueprint.com/ and it looks promising for running some scenarios, but actual human experience is always more valuable.
Right now, I'm leaning heavily towards doing a direct rollover to minimize any potential tax events or penalties. What was your experience with that process? Smooth sailing or a paperwork hurricane? Any specific questions I should be asking potential new custodians that might not be obvious? Appreciate any and all insights you guys have. Thanks in advance!
