Seriously thinking about a Gold IRA after my wife's persistence... anyone else?

Okay, so I've been in the music industry here in Nashville for years, mostly on the production side. Always thought stocks were where it was at. My wife, bless her heart, has been hounding me about a Gold IRA for like, two years now. Every time the market got a little jumpy, she'd be like, "See? Gold is stable! It's tangible!" I'd usually just nod and change the subject to whatever new gear I was eyeing.
But the last six months really got me thinking. My portfolio, which was sitting at a decent ~$85k, took a bit of a hit with all the economic uncertainty. Nothing catastrophic, but enough to make me actually listen to her for once. She came home last week with a stack of articles and a spreadsheet comparing gold's performance to some of my tech stocks over the last couple of decades. I mean, she really went all out. She even looked into dealers here in Tennessee and the whole rollover process from my existing IRA. Suddenly, it didn't seem so "out there" anymore.
I'm now seriously considering rolling over about $25-30k of my existing IRA into physical gold. The idea of having something tangible, something outside the digital ether, is starting to really resonate, especially with everything going on globally. My wife's argument about diversification and hedging against inflation just sounds a lot smarter than it used to. Plus, she's convinced it's a great way to safeguard some of our retirement savings without getting too crazy.
Has anyone else been in a similar boat? Did your spouse or a family member finally convince you to look into a Gold IRA? What was the tipping point for you? Any advice for someone just getting into this?
