Seriously considering a Gold IRA, what are your custodian experiences?
- •Got about $150k in a traditional IRA right now and thinking of rolling over a good chunk of that, maybe $50k to start, into physical gold.
- •My biggest hang-up right now is picking a custodian.
- •It feels like there are so many options, and honestly, a lot of them just sound the same in their marketing.
I've been dipping my toes into the idea of a Gold IRA for a while now, probably for the last 6-8 months, and I'm getting pretty serious about pulling the trigger. I'm a real estate agent down here in Miami, and while the market's been wild, I'm really trying to diversify my retirement savings beyond just property. Got about $150k in a traditional IRA right now and thinking of rolling over a good chunk of that, maybe $50k to start, into physical gold.
My biggest hang-up right now is picking a custodian. It feels like there are so many options, and honestly, a lot of them just sound the same in their marketing. What have been your experiences with different custodians? Are there any that really stand out for good communication, fair fees, or just generally making the process smooth? Or any that I should absolutely avoid? I'm looking for somewhere reliable because this is my retirement nest egg we're talking about, not just pocket change.
I'm also trying to get my head around all the future implications, like RMDs. I found this RMD Calculator online and it’s been super helpful for understanding projected withdrawals, but I'm curious if certain custodians are better at helping you navigate those later stages. Any insights on that would be amazing. Thanks in advance for any advice you can throw my way!
