Roth vs. Traditional Gold IRA - What's your play?

Been wrestling with this for a while and just wanted to throw it out there to see what other folks are doing. I've got a decent chunk of my retirement savings (around $350k, give or take depending on the market on any given day) in a mix of traditional investments, but I've been seriously looking at moving a decent portion into a Gold IRA. Been in steel for 30 years down here in Birmingham, so I understand commodities and the value of hard assets better than most, but this specific IRA decision point has me scratching my head.
My main dilemma is the Roth vs. Traditional Gold IRA choice. On one hand, the tax-free growth and withdrawals with a Roth are super appealing, especially if gold continues its upward trajectory like I expect it to over the long haul. My income's pretty solid right now, but who knows what the tax landscape will look like in 20-30 years when I'm actually pulling from this thing? The idea of locking in tax-free gains on a physical asset like gold is powerful.
However, the immediate tax deduction from a Traditional Gold IRA is also nothing to sneeze at. That upfront savings could be reinvested or used for other things now. I've been maxing out my 401k for years, so I'm used to the traditional tax-deferred structure. Part of me thinks, why fix what isn't broken? But then I remember how volatile things felt just a few years ago and think about true asset protection.
For those of you who've gone down the Gold IRA path, especially with a portfolio in the mid-six figures, which option did you choose and why? Did you consider your current tax bracket vs. projected future tax brackets? Any insights about managing a physical asset inside a Roth or Traditional structure? Any specific custodians better for one over the other? I'm leaning Roth, but I'm open to being swayed. Appreciate any thoughts or experiences you can share.
