Rollover took longer than I thought - anyone else?
- •Just wrapped up my 401k to Gold IRA rollover, and man, it took a bit longer than I was expecting.
- •I mean, I *get* it, there's paperwork, moving money around, all that jazz.
- •But I swear it felt like it dragged on for almost six weeks from when I first started the process.
Just wrapped up my 401k to Gold IRA rollover, and man, it took a bit longer than I was expecting. I mean, I get it, there's paperwork, moving money around, all that jazz. But I swear it felt like it dragged on for almost six weeks from when I first started the process. Is that typical? I thought I heard folks doing it much quicker.
I pulled about $75k out of my old 401k – had that money sitting there for years from when I was doing a bit more corporate work before I came back full-time to the ag business here in Fresno. Always believed in tangible assets, you know? Tractors, land, now some gold. Feels right to have some of my retirement savings in something I can actually see (metaphorically, of course, since it's stored). The market just feels a bit too jumpy lately for my comfort, especially with all the talk about interest rates and inflation.
The company I used was pretty good about keeping me updated, even if the updates were sometimes just "still processing." What kind of timelines did others experience with their rollovers, especially if it was a direct rollover from an old employer 401k? Did I just happen to hit a slow patch, or is 4-6 weeks pretty standard these days? I'm curious if anyone has some tips for speeding things up if I ever decide to do another one down the line. I know there's a lot of info out there, I even took that Gold IRA Quiz early on to get a handle on what I was getting into.
On the bright side, the gold is in its place, and I feel a lot better about that chunk of my retirement for the long haul. Just wish the journey there was a touch smoother. Any thoughts or shared experiences would be much appreciated!
