So, I finally did it. After years of thinking about it, I pulled the trigger and rolled over about $75k from an old 401k into a new Gold IRA. This felt like a huge move for me, especially as a small business owner here in Denver – trying to diversify and get some stability in what feels like an increasingly bonkers market. The whole process was a bit more involved than I initially thought, even with a pretty good company helping me out.
I'm feeling pretty good about it now, but the whole experience definitely got me wondering about pitfalls. I'm still relatively new to this specific type of investment, and I imagine there are some common beginner mistakes folks make. I tried to do my homework, even spent a good chunk of time going through the Learning Center which was super helpful for understanding the basics and some of the tax implications, but you never know what you don't know until it's too late, right?
For those of you who have been in the Gold IRA game longer than my whopping two months, what were the biggest mistakes you either made or saw others make early on? Or maybe, what was something you almost did that would have been a huge headache down the line? I'm talking anything from picking the wrong metals, not understanding storage, or getting hit with unexpected fees. I’m hoping to glean some wisdom so I don’t accidentally shoot myself in the foot with the rest of my portfolio.
