Finally got around to initiating my Roth 401k to Gold IRA rollover. Been thinking about this for months, especially with how wonky the market's been. Honestly, the thought of watching my timber stock portfolio dip with every economic sneeze has been stressing me out. My family's been in timber for generations up here in Spokane, and while it's been good to us, I don't want all my eggs in that one basket anymore. Heard too many stories from my dad's buddies about getting caught flat-footed.

My Roth had about $380k in it, and I decided to move about $200k into a Gold IRA, mostly physical precious metals. The whole process felt a bit overwhelming at first, all the forms and disclosures. My rep at GoldCo (after looking at a few different companies) has been pretty solid though, walked me through the direct rollover process. Just got the confirmation that they've reached out to my 401k custodian.

So, for anyone who's been through this, how long did your actual transfer take? Not the initial paperwork, but from the point your new Gold IRA company contacted your old 401k custodian until the funds actually landed in your new account? My rep said "typically 2-3 weeks, but could be longer depending on the custodian." That "could be longer" bit is making me a little antsy. I'm hoping it's on the quicker side. I just want this money safely diversified and out of the digital ether!

Any tips or warnings about post-transfer things to look out for? Feeling pretty good about this decision, especially securing some of that generational wealth outside of just forestry, but always open to hearing others' experiences.
