Okay, so I've been thinking a lot lately about rebalancing my Gold IRA, especially with all the economic headwinds. I rolled over about $75k from my old 401k into a Gold IRA a couple of years back. Best decision I ever made, honestly. Living here in Boise, I see firsthand how resilient our community is, but global stuff always makes me a little antsy, especially with my responsibilities as mayor. My initial thought was to go pretty heavy on physical gold, which I did – probably 80% gold, 20% silver.
Now, with inflation still stubbornly high and some of the geopolitical stuff swirling, I'm wondering if I should adjust that. I’ve been reading a bit about potentially increasing my silver allocation. The industrial demand for silver seems like it could really pop in the next few years, and it feels like it might offer a bit more upside than gold right now, even if it's more volatile. I'm not looking to get rich overnight, but I also want to make sure my family's future, and frankly, my town's stability (since a lot of my net worth is tied to this area), is as secure as possible. I've heard some talk about gold-silver ratio plays, but it feels a bit more advanced than I'm comfortable with for my core retirement.
Has anyone with a similar portfolio size done a rebalance lately? What factors did you consider? I’m thinking maybe shifting another 10-15% from gold to silver, which would put me around 70/30 or 65/35. My primary goal is still wealth preservation and inflation hedging, but I don't want to leave potential growth on the table either. It's not a huge portfolio, so every percentage point counts, you know? Just trying to make the smartest move here for the long haul.
