Rollover Realities: My 401k to Gold IRA Journey & Timeline Questions

So, I’ve been steadily moving some of my retirement funds into a Gold IRA over the last couple of years, and honestly, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve made. As a healthcare administrator here in Tampa, I've seen firsthand how volatile things can get, and having a portion of my portfolio (~$200k right now, with about a quarter of that in gold) outside the traditional market gives me a lot of peace of mind. Anyway, I just initiated another direct rollover from a old 401k from a previous job – nothing crazy, about $30k – and it got me thinking about the timeline for these things.
My first rollover, a few years back, felt like it took ages. It was an indirect rollover, which I now know can add complexity. This time, I went with a direct trustee-to-trustee transfer, handled by my Gold IRA custodian. My understanding is that this should be much smoother and quicker, but I’m curious what others have experienced recently.
For those who’ve done direct rollovers from a 401k to a Gold IRA, what was your typical timeline from the initial request to actually seeing the precious metals in your account at the depository? Is a couple of weeks reasonable to expect, or should I brace myself for a longer wait? Also, any tips on what to look out for during the process to avoid delays? This is definitely one of those "set it and forget it" investments for me, but the waiting game can still be a little nerve-wracking!
