Been a while since I posted but hoping for some wisdom from the group. Got about $750k in my Gold IRA and honestly, it's been doing great for the past few years. My holdings are pretty straightforward: mostly American Gold Eagles and Canadian Maple Leafs, with a smaller percentage in some PAMP Suisse bars. When I first set it up a few years back, I was really focused on pure gold to weather any economic storms, which felt particularly prescient during some of those wilder market swings.
Now, I'm starting to think about diversifying a bit within the metals space. My logistics company here in Memphis is doing well, but I'm also getting close to planning my succession, probably in the next 5-7 years, so capital preservation and consistent growth are top of mind. I've been reading more about other precious metals like silver and even platinum/palladium for industrial demand upside. Has anyone here rebalanced their Gold IRA to include a significant portion of other metals? What was your experience like?
I'm wondering if it's worth the effort to sell off some of my current gold holdings (and deal with any potential premium loss there, though I bought pretty well) to pick up silver or platinum. Are the storage fees significantly different for a mixed-metal IRA? I use a pretty standard IRS-approved depository right now. What kind of percentages did you all aim for when diversifying like this? Any particular metals you'd recommend looking into or avoiding?
Just trying to get a feel for whether this is a common strategy as people approach retirement, or if sticking to a pure gold play is generally considered safer for this kind of significant IRA allocation. Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
