Man, between gas prices and groceries, I swear my paycheck is stretching less and less each month. It’s got me seriously spooked about inflation and the long-term value of my savings. I'm a teacher here in Columbus, and I'm just starting to really understand how much inflation can eat away at everything. I've been reading up on gold IRAs, especially as a way to protect my retirement funds from what feels like an inevitable slide.
I've got about $25,000 in an old 403(b) from a previous district, and I'm seriously considering rolling a good chunk of that into a Gold IRA. I know it’s a big step, but the idea of having some tangible assets, something that historically holds its value when the dollar goes sideways, is really appealing right now. I'm still in the early stages of my gold journey, so this is all pretty new territory for me.
Has anyone here done a rollover specifically because of inflation fears? How much of your portfolio did you end up allocating to gold? I'm debating between putting 10% or maybe even 20% of that $25k in. Any advice on companies that are good for smaller rollovers like mine? I'm not talking about huge amounts here, just dipping my toes in.
I feel like I'm already behind on this, and every news report just makes me more anxious. Any real-world experiences or tips on getting started would be awesome. Especially interested if anyone else in Ohio has gone through this process recently!
