Rolling my old 401k into a Gold IRA - best decision I

Just wanted to share my experience with rolling over an old 401k into a Gold IRA, especially for anyone on the fence. After teaching for 30 years here in Phoenix, I had a decent chunk of change sitting in an old 401k from the school district, maybe around $180,000. Watching the market crash in '08 after I'd just retired really shook me. I vowed then and there I wouldn't be caught like that again with my retirement savings. So, about five years ago, I decided to diversify big time and moved a good portion of that 401k into a Gold IRA.
The process itself was surprisingly straightforward. I worked with a reputable company – did a ton of research before picking one, of course – and they really guided me through the whole thing. It was a direct rollover, so no taxes or penalties, which was my biggest concern. It felt a little nerve-wracking at the time, seeing that much money shift, but honestly, the peace of mind it's given me holding physical gold (well, held by a custodian, but still!) has been invaluable. I sleep a lot better knowing a good chunk of my nest egg isn't just evaporating with every market correction.
Now that I'm getting closer to needing to take distributions, I’ve been looking into the RMDs. One super helpful tool I found recently is this RMD Calculator. It really breaks down what you can expect to withdraw and helps plan everything out. It’s definitely something to consider if you're approaching that age. For me, it's about having that tangible asset, those gold rounds and bars, as a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty, especially with all the talk about the dollar these days.
What are others' experiences with rollovers? Did anyone find it more complicated than I did, or have any strong feelings (good or bad) about their decision to go with a Gold IRA? Always curious to hear other perspectives from fellow investors here.
