Rolled over part of my 401k into a Gold IRA - best decision for my retirement.
- •Living in Albuquerque, I've seen firsthand how inflation hits, and frankly, my 401k wasn't exactly making me feel bulletproof.

Just wanted to share my experience because I know a lot of folks here are probably in a similar boat, staring down their retirement accounts and wondering if they're really safe. I've been a government employee for going on 20 years now, and while my pension is decent, I've always been a bit antsy about having all my eggs in one basket, especially with the stock market feeling like a rollercoaster these days. Living in Albuquerque, I've seen firsthand how inflation hits, and frankly, my 401k wasn't exactly making me feel bulletproof.
About a year and a half ago, I finally pulled the trigger and rolled over a portion of my 401k into a Gold IRA. I didn't move everything, maybe about $70k of my roughly $250k total retirement pot. It felt like a significant chunk at the time, and honestly, I was a little nervous. The process itself was surprisingly straightforward once I found a reputable custodian. There was some paperwork, obviously, but they walked me through it, and the transfer was relatively smooth. The main goal wasn't to get rich quick, but to simply protect some of my savings from the kind of market volatility we've been seeing.
And honestly? I sleep a lot better at night. Seeing the news about interest rates, geopolitical stuff, and inflation, knowing I have that physical asset in my corner is a huge relief. It’s not about huge gains for me, it's about preservation and stability. My financial advisor even agreed it was a sensible diversification move for someone in my position. It’s a peace of mind thing.
Anyone else here made a similar move? What were your considerations? And for those who have had a Gold IRA for a while, any long-term insights or tips I should be thinking about?
