So after agonizing for months, I finally pulled the trigger and rolled over my old 401k into a Gold IRA. Seriously, the whole process felt like trying to untangle a ball of yarn while wearing oven mitts, but I did it! I’m a teacher here in Columbus, and my old 401k from a previous district was just sitting there, not really doing much, and honestly, the fees were starting to annoy me. It was only about $28,000, but still, that’s a decent chunk of change for me.
I spent probably way too much time reading everything I could get my hands on about Precious Metals IRAs. The whole idea of tangible assets felt really appealing, especially with all the economic uncertainty lately. I was so nervous about making a mistake and losing everything, but seeing my old 401k just… stagnate… was stressing me out more. The actual rollover itself was easier than I thought, though. Once I picked a custodian (which was a whole other rabbit hole of research), they really walked me through the paperwork. It was mostly just signing some forms and waiting for the funds to transfer.
Now that it’s done, I feel a weird mix of relief and excitement. It’s comforting to know that I own something real, you know? While I don't feel rich by any means, having that physical asset gives me a sense of security I didn't get from staring at abstract numbers in a stock portfolio. I’m thinking about adding a little more each month, maybe even some silver given the current market. What’s everyone’s experience been like after their initial rollover? Did you find yourself adjusting your long-term investment strategy much?
