Rolled over my 401K to a Gold IRA – feeling good about inflation protection, but what else?

About two years ago, I pulled the trigger and rolled over a good chunk of my old 401K into a Gold IRA. I'm a nurse here in Seattle, and honestly, seeing all the craziness with inflation over the past few years just made me really nervous about my retirement savings. My portfolio is sitting around the $75k mark in physical gold, which felt like a safe bet against the dollar losing value. I know it's not going to make me rich overnight, but the idea was more about preserving my wealth for the long haul. My parents lost a fair bit in '08, and I just don't want to be in that same boat when I’m ready to retire.
I definitely feel a lot better having that physical asset. It's like a tangible safety net that the stock market just doesn't offer. Watching the news about housing costs here, and just general living expenses, has me constantly thinking about how to best protect what I've worked so hard for. The Gold IRA felt like the most straightforward way to directly counter inflation, and the rollover process itself was surprisingly smooth, which was a huge relief.
So, my question for everyone here is beyond just the Gold IRA – what other strategies are people using or considering for inflation protection, especially within retirement accounts? Are there other asset classes that have given you peace of mind? I'm curious if anyone has diversified beyond just gold and silver within their IRAs, or if you're holding a significant portion in other types of inflation-resistant investments. Always looking to learn and optimize my approach!
