Rolled over a chunk of my 401k to Gold IRA - my experience and thoughts (Omaha folks?)

Just wanted to share my experience with rolling over a portion of my old 401k into a Gold IRA. I’ve been an insurance agent here in Omaha for a good while, and while I’m pretty diversified with my 401k, a Roth, and some individual stocks, I’ve been watching the economic news with a bit of a raised eyebrow lately. Made the decision a few months back to move about $75k of my old 401k funds into physical gold (self-directed IRA, obviously).
The process itself was surprisingly straightforward, though it felt like a lot of paperwork at the time. I worked with a company recommended by a friend – did my due diligence, looked at their reviews, made sure they were legit with the storage options and all that. They helped me navigate the direct rollover without any tax implications, which was my biggest concern. The funds went directly from my old 401k administrator to the new custodian, then I basically picked out the specific coins and bars I wanted. Feeling pretty good about having a tangible asset outside of the traditional financial system right now, to be honest. It’s not my whole nest egg by any stretch, but it adds a layer of security that I really value.
What I really noticed was the peace of mind. Knowing a portion of my retirement isn't just numbers on a screen, but actual physical gold, is a huge psychological benefit for me. With all the talk about inflation and market volatility, it feels like a smart move for long-term wealth preservation. I'm not looking to get rich quick with gold, but to protect what I've already earned. Are there any other Omaha-based investors who've done something similar? Would love to hear your experiences, especially if you have any insights on local resources or just general thoughts on how your gold IRA is performing for you.
