Rolled over a big chunk of my 401k to physical gold this year, feeling good about it

Finally pulled the trigger on a pretty substantial 401k rollover into a Gold IRA earlier this year, and honestly, the peace of mind is worth every bit of effort. I'm talking a high six-figure chunk of my portfolio that was just sitting in traditional equity funds, feeling way too exposed to the latest headlines. Being based out here in Scottsdale, I've seen enough crazy market swings even with all the wealth in the area to know better than to have all my eggs in one basket. My whole entrepreneurial journey has been about calculated risks, but also knowing when to hedge.
I’ve been building up a pretty significant physical precious metals collection outside of my retirement accounts for years, mostly high-value coins and some kilo bars, so the mental leap to move retirement funds wasn't huge. The process itself was way smoother than I anticipated, actually. Found a solid custodian who specialized in self-directed IRAs and pretty much handled everything with my old 401k provider. The biggest decision was really just picking the specific eligible gold products. Went with a solid mix of American Gold Eagles and some Canadian Maples, just for that extra layer of diversification even within the gold itself.
With all the geopolitical stuff brewing and the inflation numbers still looking shaky, I truly believe having a tangible asset that isn't tied to the whims of corporate earnings calls or Fed minutes is just smart money management. My total portfolio is well over 8-figures now, and this move just feels like a foundational brick in fortifying it further. Anyone else here made a similar move recently? What’s your take on holding physical vs. paper gold in these types of accounts?
