Okay, so I finally pulled the trigger and rolled over about $75,000 from my old 401k into a Gold IRA. Been thinking about it for a while, especially with all the talk about inflation and the general unpredictability of the market lately. As mayor of a small town here in Idaho, I’m always looking at the long game, not just for our community but for my own retirement too. My portfolio isn't huge compared to some, but it’s definitely significant to me.
I went with Augusta Precious Metals in the end. They seemed to have the best reputation for transparency, and their customer service was really top-notch from the initial calls. I wasn't looking for a high-pressure sales pitch, just good, honest information, and they delivered. Given my smaller rollover amount, I was a bit worried about getting the same attention as someone moving 200k+, but they made me feel completely comfortable. The process was surprisingly smooth, though the paperwork always feels like a lot, right?
Now that I'm on the other side, I'm curious what other "smaller" investors (let's say under ~$100k) here have done. Who did you go with and why? Any unexpected fees or things you wish you'd known? I'm feeling pretty good about my decision, but always open to hearing other experiences. It's a big step to diversify into physical precious metals, and I want to make sure I made the most informed choice possible.
Especially interested in hearing from folks who focused on the rollover process rather than just buying new metals. Any insights on managing your precious metals IRA after the initial setup would be great too!
