Just wanted to share my experience with rolling over an old 401k into a gold IRA. I'm a teacher here in Columbus, and I had about $10,000 just sitting in a previous employer's 401k that I honestly hadn't thought about much. With all the economic news lately, I've been feeling pretty anxious about my retirement savings, especially since my portfolio isn't huge yet.
After a lot of research (and honestly, a little hand-wringing), I decided to move that chunk into a Gold IRA. The process itself was surprisingly straightforward. I picked a custodian I felt good about and they pretty much guided me through the paperwork. It took about three weeks from start to finish to get everything transferred and the physical gold purchased and sitting in the vault. The fees were definitely something to consider, but I weighed that against the peace of mind I'm getting from diversifying away from just stocks and bonds.
I know $10k isn't a massive amount, but for me, it feels like a really significant step in protecting my future. It's my first foray into precious metals investing, and it feels good to have something tangible backing a portion of my retirement. Anyone else relatively new to this and feeling the same way? What were your initial thoughts after making the switch?
