Rolled my old 401k into a Gold IRA last year - best decision I've made in ages

Just wanted to share my experience for anyone out there on the fence about a Gold IRA, especially if you're sitting on an old 401k like I was. About a year and a half ago, I finally pulled the trigger and rolled over a substantial chunk of my old employer's 401k – we're talking about $300k that was just stagnating and exposed to way too much market volatility for my comfort.
Having worked in banking for years (before I bailed and moved to Portland for a bit of a lifestyle reset), I'd seen enough cycles to know that "diversification" for most people just means having three different tech stocks. I wanted something genuinely uncorrelated. The process itself was surprisingly smooth. I worked with a company based out of Delaware for the precious metals and a custodian in South Dakota. Went with physical gold and some silver, kept it simple. The paperwork was a bit much, as always with financial stuff, but their team really helped streamline it. From initial inquiry to funded account, it was maybe a three-week process, no major snags.
Watching what the market's been doing lately, I'm just so relieved. That $300k is now comfortably diversified into physical assets, and honestly, the peace of mind is worth more than any speculative gain I might have missed. I sleep better knowing a portion of my retirement isn't going to vanish overnight because some meme stock decided to tank or the Fed sneezed funny. I still have a good chunk invested traditionally, but this tangible asset portion feels like a solid foundation.
Anyone else here made a similar move recently? What's your take on the current economic climate and how your precious metals investments are performing for you? Also, for my fellow Oregonians, any local resources or dealers you've had good experiences with for additional smaller purchases?
